Make Home Gardening Fun with Back to the Roots

December 15, 2016 by Susan Bewley

Are you considering having your own garden indoors? See why we are fans of Back to the Roots organic garden sets here!

How many of you like the idea of growing your own food? It feels like everywhere we look,  processed food is everywhere, not to mention the worry of what chemicals may have touched vegetables or herbs entering our bodies. While some of what the media talks about is nothing more than scare tactics, others may you step back and wonder if it is better to just grow some of your food at home.  Scares, real or imagined, aren’t the only concern –  add in the fact that herbs are often extremely expensive in stores. While I have always had a little plant area in our house, I have been toying with the ideas of growing my own herbs in the house, especially after having a lot of success with a small garden outside this past year. After doing a bit of research, I decided it was finally time to start our little garden. One company quickly caught our attention when it came to organic, easy gardens – Back to the Roots.

Back to the Roots: Mushroom Farm

Looking for an easy way to grow mushroom s that is great for kids and adults alike? If so, we think you will love the Back to the Roots Mushroom Farm.  What makes this kit so cool is that it allows you to grow organic oyster mushrooms from the box in just 10 days. All you have to do is open the box, mist with water, and wait to harvest the mushrooms 10 days later.  Not only do you get fun mushrooms, you also get heirloom tomato seeds to grow with the composted mushroom kit! Since this box can last for months, it is great to give as a gift for mushroom lovers to use anytime, or busy parents who want to help their children learn about growing food, but don’t have the time to start this project right away. These mushrooms and the included tomato seeds are USDA organic and non-GMO certified. Currently, you can buy the Mushroom Farm on the Back to the Roots website for only $19.99.

As well, the cans are packed with nutrient rich soil to help your plants grow healthy and perfect for future cooking. Like all of their plants, they are also USDA organic and non-GMO certified. This is the sort of thing I’d gladly give as a gift to a kid or to anyone who wants to eat healthily or anyone who is new to growing their own food or to anyone who may have limited space for growing. Practical, valuable and easy. Good stuff.

The only reason I don’t grow vegetables indoors is because gnats seem to come with the growth.

  34. Linda Szymoniak says

    July 15, 2017 at 2:05 am

I’ve been working on making what i cook healthier, and experimenting with many different recipes (I especially love trying dishes from various other countries). I really don’t think dried herbs do many of the dishes justice, and do buy fresh ones from the grocery at times. I’ve been wanting to start my own herb garden, and this looks like it would be a great way to do this. Also, what a great gift idea! I know others who would benefit from having fresh herbs readily available.

  35. Deb E says

    August 28, 2017 at 12:20 am

I love them both in a jar and can and I’d love to either give or get one of these as a gift. This would work well in a small apartment too.
