With many of us being home during quarantine, we are finding ourselves with a lot more time on our hands. While it may be tempting to Netflix your day away, it is also the perfect time to pick up a new hobby. Just because your favorite hobby is currently closed doesn’t mean you can’t buy a kit or supplies, especially with so many amazing small businesses that are still open online. Actually, my favorite place to buy supplies for my projects isn’t Amazon or the big brand hobby stores – it is Etsy!
Not only is Etsy a fantastic place to get one of a kind, crafted items from small businesses, but a place to find handmade art supplies, storage, and just about anything for your favorite hobby! Since now is the best to stand with small businesses, we are excited to share with you some of our favorite places to get amazing crafting supplies, hobby kits, or needed items for your favorite hobby!
Sewing
Are you making masks for your family or healthcare workers? Since I’m still not a very experienced sewer, I wasted quite a few materials learning to make binding (due to no one having elastic at the time. As I was watching tutorial videos, I was in awe of all the cute materials people were using in the video (that no one had in stock, of course). After I finished my masks, I saw that just about everything I wanted was available on Etsy and priced better than anywhere local! Not only did the have the cute sewing clips I wanted, but adorable fabrics and elastic!
For those who have masks and are hoping to start a new sewing project, there are some amazing Etsy who also have DIY kits for sale. You can starts a new hobby for yourself or your child, ranging from learning to sew cross-stitch kits to make your own stuffed animals! One of the things I’m hoping to learn is needle felting, and I found the cutest kit for making your own needle felted succulent!
Board Games
I don’t know about you, but we have been building our board game collection over the past few years. A few of our games have been taking up nearly a bookshelf on its own (Dominion, we are talking about you). With us being home more, we have been spending more time not just playing board games, but organizing our collection. If you look at Pinterest, one of the best ways to organize board games is by ditching the box and getting a beautiful custom made wood box for combining all the pieces of the game. Planner Organizer
Are you deciding this is the perfect time to get organized? Before all of this get back to work, this is the perfect time to start a planner. While I have tried a variety of planner styles, but I have always found that the custom made ones are the best! On Etsy, you can find planners that can be reused indefinitely and for just about every project, allowing you to get organized with your fitness, blogging, or creating your own personal diary. Since I have a Cameo 3, I also love buying designed for planner stickers.
