S’More Lush No Bake Dessert Recipe

July 23, 2024 by Susan Bewley

Do you love S’more type desserts? I will freely admit s’mores are some of my absolute favorite desserts! While my husband isn’t a fan of marshmallows, this is one of those few desserts I will go out of my way to make for myself. I must eat in moderation since I know I will be the only one to eat any marshmallow-based dessert. However, if I go into trouble to make something for myself, I want to ensure it is worth the trouble. One of the best ways to have it is not to take a lot of my time and give me a dessert that is worth the extra calories (it is worth it after gardening outside in this heat). Of course, this means making a no-bake, easy-to-prepare dessert like a S’more Lush!

So, what exactly is a lush? Don’t worry; we aren’t talking about your drunk relative or even a dessert that includes anything alcoholic.  We aren’t even talking about something you smoke (promise). This is an old-timey dessert, older than our modern-day slang. A lush is an old-school, no-bake layered dessert that usually has a pressed-in crumb crust, a pudding filling, and whipped cream. That’s it. It is a very easy-to-make dessert that was very popular at summer gatherings or local potlucks. While my mom wasn’t a Southerner, I grew up with many local friends and family making these for gatherings here in Kentucky. Maybe it is just a southern thing?

Anyways, this yummy s’more dessert is everything you need to satisfy your s’more craving without having to make a campfire. It is a graham cracker crust, marshmallow fluff, and a delightful Hersey’s chocolate, making it the perfect dessert to cool you off on a hot summer day. The worst part of the dessert is waiting for it to finish congealing in the fridge overnight. We promise it is worth the wait, and no one will know that you spent less than thirty minutes making this delightful no-bake dessert! This is an especially great dessert for a summer BBQ or pool party. Just don’t expect to bring home any leftovers since kids love it!

Are you ready to make this genuinely delightful S’more Lush? Check out the full recipe below, and make sure to share with us on social media how this lush turned out for you! We are sure your s’more-loving family will love it.

A chocolatey, marshmallow no no-bake dessert that tastes just like a s’more!

  • Author: Susan Bewley
  • Prep Time: 30 Minutes
  • Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/3 cup granulated white sugar
  • 6 tablespoons butter, room temperature
  • 1 Block of Cream Cheese (8 oz) at Room Temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 Chocolate Instant Pudding Boxes (3.4 oz)
  • 2 cups 2% milk
  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 1 cup marshmallow fluff
  • 1 Container of Cool Whip (8 oz) or Equivalent Pre-Made Whipped Cream
  • Graham cracker pieces/crumbs, Hershey bar pieces, and mini marshmallows for garnish

Instructions

  1. Add graham cracker crumbs, granulated sugar, and butter to a mixing bowl and mix with clean hands until well combined.
  2. Press the graham cracker mixture firmly into the bottom of an 8×8 baking dish, ensuring it is pressed out evenly into all sides and corners. Set aside.
  3. Add the cream cheese, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar to a large mixing bowl and beat with an electric mixer until smooth and all ingredients are well combined.
  4. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly on the graham cracker crust. Set aside.
  5. Combine the pudding mixes and milk in a large mixing bowl and whisk until smooth. Add the chocolate chips and mix to combine.
  6. Spread the pudding mixture evenly on the cream cheese layer.
  7. Place the baking dish into the refrigerator to chill overnight, allowing the pudding layer to set.
  8. Once the pudding layer has set, gently spread the marshmallow fluff over the top of the pudding layer.
  9. Spread the cool whip evenly over the top. You may not need to use the entire tub – use however much you like.
  10. Sprinkle graham cracker pieces, Hershey bar pieces, and mini marshmallows over the top of the lush.
  11. Serve immediately or store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
