What surprised me the most is how easy it is to make homemade caramel hot cocoa. While it takes a little more time than a premade packet, the rich flavor makes it worth it! What I like the most is that everything you need is likely stuff you already have in your baking goods, except maybe mini marshmallows and quality caramel sauce. The entire process of making it from scratch is also less than 10 minutes, making it a quick treat to enjoy on a cold autumn day or while you are snowed inside. Either way, it is one of those treats that children of all ages can enjoy!

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk
- 2 tablespoons granulated white sugar
- 3 tablespoons caramel sauce, plus extra for topping
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips, plus extra for topping
- Whipped cream for topping
- Mini marshmallows for topping
Instructions
- Add the milk, sugar, caramel sauce, cocoa powder, and mini chocolate chips to a medium saucepan and place it on the stovetop over medium heat.
- Stir constantly for 5-10 minutes, until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is hot but not boiling.
- Pour the hot cocoa into two mugs and top with whipped cream, extra caramel, chocolate chips, and mini marshmallows.
