Chillow Review: Making Bedtime Cool & Comfortable

November 29, 2013 by Susan Bewley

Disclosure: I received these products for free to review . The opinions in my review are honest and my own.

If there is one thing my husband is known for, it’s his ability to feel warm in the middle of a blizzard. When everyone else is bundled up outside, he is happily going around in a t-shirt in the middle of November. This sometimes makes bedtime a bit difficult because I love to bundle under lots of blankets and he would prefer anything to help him feel cooler. Since I am always looking for things to make him feel comfortable, I was pretty excited when I was asked to review the Chillow – a pillow designed to stay cool naturally.

Chillow: What is It

Chillow: Overview

From first glance, the Chillow really doesn’t seem like anything special. It looks like a thin, blue foamed pillow that feels slightly soft and squishy. To make it work, you fill it with 8 cups of water and let the water soak in for 4 hours. After that, you smooth it (twice, once with the cap on, and then off), and then seal it carefully with the cap again to create a vacuum. Even though they really don’t talk about it in the instruction, this step is a bit of a mess. I personally had water spill a few times during filling, but it didn’t seem to effect the cover or function of the pillow at all. The worst was that after sitting, the water was a bit on the cold side! From there, you can use the pillow as is or put it in the fridge for 15 – 30 minutes (never the freezer).

As for laying on the pillow itself, my husband seemed fairly impressed and compared it to resting his head on a water bed due to the floating water in the pillow itself. While this was odd at first, it did exactly as advertised – it helped him feel cooler and more comfortable. Based on this assessment, we are very happy to give the pillow an A rating!

Hmm, I would like something like this. But I am already a pillow stacker and a side sleeper. Did he lay it ontop of the pillow or in the case? I would get 10 of these and sleep on them, I like it frosty!!!

I've seen these around and always think they seem like a good idea, especially in the summer. Sometimes it's just too hot to sleep well so anything that will help is good.

I would like to try one of these. I'm just not sure about the way it works.  Seems as though there should be a way to make a cooling pillow without having to fill it with water.

I wonder would this really help if I'm having night sweats?  I might try it out because you can use it for a ice pack, if you injure my back.

Needed for Texas in the summertime.  It is so hot/humid here then the smart people go somewhere else…winter texans.   Of course, I'm not smart.
