Are you someone who loves cookies and cream? For many, nothing is more comforting than sitting back with cookies and a big glass of milk. Maybe it is just something from our childhood that we all hold dear, but it is one of those comfort rituals that seems to last throughout the ages. No matter how old you are, there is just something nostalgic about this time-honored tradition. While some of us may like homemade cookies, there is nothing wrong with someone just sitting back with Oreo cookies. Maybe this is where the entire cookies and cream trend came decades ago –all of us were trying to find more creative ways to enjoy this fun food combination.
In our family, we especially love to make scones during holidays. One reason is that they are versatile, fun, and a great breakfast or dessert item that everyone loves. One of the things I hoped to do this year was make a family-friendly scone that is perfect for Mother’s Day—something mom will enjoy and the entire family will love. We thought one of the best ways to do this was to bring a classic to our Mother’s Day breakfast—cookies and cream scones!
One of the reasons I thought cookies and cream scones would be such a hit was the combination of chocolate and vanilla, two wonderful flavors that go together. I mean, who doesn’t love Oreos? Best of all, the recipe is super easy. Kids can even make them quickly with Dad in the morning, with the most challenging part being mixing all the ingredients (and not eating them as soon as they are out of the oven).
I also love that it is a reasonably inexpensive recipe. With groceries getting even more expensive, we all need flavorful recipes that are fun treats that don’t cost a fortune. Don’t worry if you don’t like their icing; they are just as great without it. I love to have my scones without icing, with just a bit of clotted cream (you can get it at Whole Foods).
