Make Cooking Fun with the RawSpiceBar Monthly Spice Box

October 4, 2015 by Susan Bewley

Disclosure: I received this product for free to review. The opinions in my review are honest and my own.

RawSpiceBar 1

How many of you love to cook? I will freely admit, cooking is one of my favorite hobbies and I love the reaction from my husband when I made new, interesting dishes. Over the past few years, I have especially been interested in international dishes and the not-so-common spices used in these dishes. As some of you know though, spices aren’t exactly cheap, and it can be a big risk buying and trying new things, only to possibly find out you don’t like a certain spice. Even worse, I have learned that different companies sometimes have spices that taste completely different, leaving me trying a variety of different options (that should all be the same spice and flavor) before I finally find a spice mix that gives us the flavor combination we were wanting in dishes. Recently, however, we found the perfect answer to trying out new spice combinations from all over the world – RawSpiceBar!

RawSpiceBar: What is It?

Looking for a fun way to introduce new dishes to your family or the perfect gift for a chef in your life? If so, we think you will love the RawSpiceBar monthly spice subscription box. Each month, those who subscribe to the box get 3 handpicked, small-batch, freshly-ground spice blends. Each box contains about 1-2 ounces of spices, to serve approximately 8 – 10 people. As well, it contains kitchen tested recipes and ideas from RawSpice partners including award winning chefs and bloggers who love using high quality spices from all over the world. With an unprecedented focus on quality and flavor, they are certain every home chef will fall in love with their monthly spice blends.

RawSpiceBar: Overall

I will freely admit, this is one of the coolest concepts I have seen in a long time. While I have tried quite a few subscription services, never have I tried something so fun, practical, and inspiring. For our first month, we got an Istanbul Spice box, featuring a variety of different cultural spices for making authentic Turkish dishes in our own home. Our 3 handpicked, small-batch spice mixes included Za’atar, Urfa Biber, and Baharat, and recipe suggestions for them.  Not only does each envelope contain .4 oz of spice, but also gives a nice description of the spice, what it is best used for if you are experimenting at home, and what spices are in the blend itself. Honestly, I can see this subscription being heavily used in our family and a subscription being the perfect gift for anyone who loves to cook.  Based on our own experience, we are delighted to give the RawSpiceBar monthly spice subscription box an A rating.

I agree, what a great concept. I also love to try new food dishes, and yes spices are pricey especially if you do not end up liking it. I had no idea that a spice can taste different depending on the brand. I had noticed with cayenne pepper the color does

Because of heart issues, my Mom can’t eat a lot of salt anymore. So, I’ve been trying to find new ways to flavor foods. This looks promising!

I can’t believe how expensive spices can be per pound. This does sound like a good service for those that cook. It would be a great gift idea too.

You know, I finally broke down and ordered this. I have a huge spice cabinet and I cook every single day, but there are some spices that are exotic or hard to find that I am reluctant to buy full quantities of without trying them. This looks like a neat way to do that.
