The Beauty in Birthstones: Your Birthstone & It’s Meaning

December 18, 2013 by Susan Bewley

Like many other girls, I love getting jewelry. Unlike other girls, however, I prefer jewelry with my birthstone – the opal. For years, my mother would buy me earrings and other beautiful pieces of jewelry. While I have always loved my birthstone, I didn't realize that it, along with other birthstones, had its own history and meaning. Knowing that a lot of you love jewelry just as much as me, I thought I would share this fun infographic about the different birthstones, their history, and meaning!

I always knew that my birthstone was the emerald, but I never knew what it meant! I would have never guessed that it was connected to Venus, the goddess of love.

Thank you! I used to hate my birthstone because I don’t like the color yellow but now that I know its meaning is love and affection I like it a little better!

Mine is the sapphire! I remember my mom getting me and my sister earrings based on our birth stone! This actually makes for great gifts also and not too expensive unless your birthstone is diamond!!

Thanks for sharing! I can't believe the diamond signified originally inner strength; that's great and pretty cool (enough though everlasting love is cool too, haha).

I never knew the history of my birthday, Amethyst. I think it is AWESOME that for a period of time only royalty was allowed to wear this stone! I NEVER KNEW THAT!
