Easy White Chocolate Bark Recipe

February 3, 2020 by Susan Bewley

Do you love homemade candy? While my mother was never comfortable making candy at home, she did regularly bring me to a mom and pop candy store in my hometown growing up. While there were so many different types of candy available, my favorite was always their homemade bark. They made the best white chocolate and my mom knew I would get a bag full of it when we visited. It was a major disappointment when they did finally close down (none of their kids wanted to take over the shop). As an adult, I still have a major love for white chocolate and am amazed that almost no one sells white chocolate bark.

When I saw that more brands are now selling white chocolate chips, I knew I had to make some bark as a treat, for old time’s sake. What makes the bark I had as a kid so unique was that it always was flavored – either with peppermint or raspberry extract.  I love using white chocolate since it complements the peppermint well, but I have made it with other chocolates with fantastic results.

What I also love so much about this recipe is that it is a simple homemade candy that is also great to give as a gift. Just put it in a cute bag and change the sprinkles to make it a great Valentine’s Day or St Patrick’s Day gift for kids!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bag (12 oz) of white choclate chips or melts
  • 1/4 tsp Peppermint Extract
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Spread a piece of parchment paper out on a cookie sheet.
  2. Add the candy melts to a small bowl and microwave according to the instructions on the package. If you add flavoring, mix in a heated pot on the stove for better mixing the liquid flavoring.
  3. Once the white chocolate chips are smooth, spread it out on the parchment paper so that it is about 1/4-1/2 inch thick. Add the sprinkles to the top of the chocolate.
  4. Refrigerate until the chocolate is hard – at least 1 hour. Break the chocolate into pieces with your hands (some of the topping will fall off, but that’s ok). Package into festive containers or bags.

This looks so good! I’ve made Peanut Brittle before, but never tried making bark. I think I’ll try some this year.
