Blessing the Hands That Feed Us Review

January 20, 2014 by Susan Bewley

Disclosure: I received these products for free to review. The opinions in my review are honest and my own.

More than once, I have considered joining a co-op (CSA) or some other type of program with the local farmers to see if I can have fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables for our meals. To me, the thought of supporting the local farmers and having wholesome, natural foods in the house sounds truly wonderful to me. Yet, I have wondered if it would truly be enough for our family. As I was looking for the right program, I was approached to read a new book that sounded truly fascinating to me – Blessing the Hands That Feed Us by Vicki Robin. In this interesting book, she goes in depth into her experiment of seeing if someone truly can live for 30 days by only eating food grown in their area by a local farmer.

Blessing the Hands That Feed Us: What is It

Have you ever considered truly living only off of what is made your community? In Blessing the Hands That Feed Us, Vicki Robin talks about her journey of only eating products made within 10 miles from her home. Through this quest, she talks about her journey of eating healthier and finding her life being more fulfilled by enjoying the hard work going into the food she eats. During her quest, she becomes friends with various farmers and others in her community that produce the food that goes into her body. Through her reflective and interesting narrative, you can learn firsthand about trying to live only off of what is produced by local farmers.

Blessing the Hands That Feed Us: My Thoughts

I will be honest, I thought this book was a bit dry, but did have a quite a bit of useful information. Don’t get me wrong, I am always interested in seeing how others can live more naturally, but certain parts of the book felt a bit overwhelming to me. As someone who wants to eat healthier and more naturally, however, this book did give me some ideas of how I can do this while supporting our farmers. Based on my own experience of the book, I am happy to give it a B rating.

Blessing the Hands That Feed Us: Where to Purchase

I love eating home grown vegetables, but, that would get olf. Fast. I love meat and fruits that can't be grown in our climate.

I just love reading reviews of books like these. While I love reading the books themselves, sometimes I WISH I had a review beforehand.  Thanks so much!

Yeah I don't have a Co-op available here, I would love to eat home grown vegetables.
