Complete Book of Sewing Techniques Book Review

September 27, 2017 by Susan Bewley

Are you wanting to learn how to sew? See what we think of the latest book - Complete Book of Sewing Techniques here!

Are you considering starting a new hobby? Growing up, I was lucky to have a mom who was an amazing seamstress. There truly wasn’t anything my mom couldn’t sew. I have so many beautiful doll dresses from her and even gorgeous curtains in my living room. When she passed away, I inherited all of her sewing machines, which are far more advanced than my basic sewing machine she gifted me years ago. While I know a bit about sewing, I know I need to brush up, even on the basics, since it has been a very long time. As I was doing some research, a complimentary copy of a new sewing book arrived in the mail – Complete Book of Sewing Techniques by Wendy Gardiner. Once it arrived, I couldn’t wait to start reading!

Complete Book of Sewing Techniques: What is It?

Looking for a book to help teach you how to sew? If so, we think you will love Complete Book of Sewing Techniques. This approachable instruction book teaches you everything you need to know to get started sewing at home, either by hand or on a sewing machine. Here is what the publisher has to say about this book:

For Great-Great Grandma, sewing clothing for the family was a necessity. In today’s ready-to-wear society, it’s a creative and rewarding personal choice. Packed full of information on basic sewing techniques, this book provides an ideal introduction for beginning sewers as well as a useful reference for those who already have sewing skills. Learning how to sew has never been simpler, with step-by-step photographs and friendly advice from internationally accredited sewing expert Wendy Gardiner. Along with clear instructions on everything from making seams, hems, sleeves, and collars to attaching linings and zippers, Wendy includes comprehensive information on fabrics, threads, needles and other equipment. Her clear directions ensure that even beginners will get great results. With the techniques you learn in The Complete Book of Sewing you’ll soon be stitching amazing clothes with skill and confidence.

Inside The Complete Book of Sewing

  • Beautifully illustrated, comprehensive guide to all aspects of sewing, from dressmaking to soft furnishings.

  • Covers sewing techniques from hand stitching and hemming to making collars and sleeves, adding darts for shaping, and inserting zips and buttonholes.

  • Includes comprehensive information on fabrics, threads, needles and other equipment.

  • Step-by-step photographs and color illustrations.

  • Perfect for beginning sewers with no previous experience.

Complete Book of Sewing Techniques: Our Thoughts

Honestly, I think this is one of the most easy to follow, comprehensive sewing books I have seen. This book is very down to earth and filled with beautiful color images to make sewing approachable for just about anyone. While some of it felt a bit too basic for me (since I grew up sewing) it was a great refresher book for me on some of the things I had totally forgotten about or didn’t realize the technique had a name (one of my biggest issues to date). For someone who is just getting started and knows almost nothing about sewing, this book would be absolutely superb. I would honestly recommend Complete Book of Sewing Techniques to anyone who wants to learn more about sewing at home.

Complete Book of Sewing Techniques: Where to Purchase?

Want to purchase this awesome book for yourself or someone you know? You can find Complete Book of Sewing Techniques on Amazon.com for only $13.38 in paperback or $12.71 on Kindle. Don’t forget, you can also get two day free shipping if you are Prime Member (or have a 30 day free trial). Who knew that learning to sew could be so easy?

My mom tried to teach me how to sew when I was a little girl. I was not into it at that time. Know I would like to know and this book would be great on teaching how to sew and do it correctly..

This does look like a good book. I grew up learning how to sew, by myself, nobody showed me and there were no books, just follow the pattern. It would have been nice to have this book back then! I think it is good if you or your kid(s) want to sew, most do better with lessons, and also a book like this.

This is the perfect book for niece. You wanted to make a skirt for her little girl. So she visited her brother in law and he taught her how to sew the basics. Then she traded a woman a hair cut for a older sewing machine. But she really would like this book

I’m contemplating a sewing machine for my daughter for Christmas and would also like a good book or two to get her started. This sounds like a good choice.

I love sewing clothes. I took fashion classes in class. I started from sewing clothes to making patterns on the computer. Then I learned to add shrinkages onto the patterns. So much to learn making clothes. My 8 years old daughter recently learned how to sew by hand. I’m so happy she like sewing.

I sold my sewing machine a few years ago, but I wish I hadn’t. My girls are getting older and I think it would be great for them to learn and for me to learn more! I have so many things I’d love to make!!
